In this study, enrichment of shale samples that are normally wasted during metallurgical coke production were examined by using flotation techniques. The shale samples which were used in this study has been taken from the bituminous coal of Karadon Sulu, Cay, Akdag seams and Uzulmez Sulu, Cay, Nasifoglu seams in Zonguldak region which has the well known coal reservoir of Turkiye. Each flotation experiment lasted 40 minutes after premixing of shale samples of 2 minutes. In all flotation expriments, while ash content of floating coals were decreased, their calorific values substantially increased with respect to those of dedicated shale samples. Results obtained during 40 minutes experiment showed that flotation should be carried out for 15 minutes for the best productivity and energy saving.
