Abstract
Advancement using the existing materials and investigation of prospects for the evolution of modern materials by engineers, scientists, and researchers is crucial for the development of science and technology. Cermets are an advanced class of composites made from a mixture of a ceramic phase (hard) and a metallic phase (binding). The cermets can show mixed attractive properties of both ceramic, such as hardness and high-temperature resistance, and metal, such as the ability to undergo plastic deformation. Due to their excellent properties, cermets have been extensively used as cutting tools, in processing machinery, armor-piercing munitions, etc. Multiscaled micro- and nano cermets present excellent mechanical properties, like high hardness and toughness. This chapter reviews in detail the fabrication of cermets and copper alloys by ball milling. In addition to this, the properties and applications, involving the latest research, innovations, and market trends are also discussed.
