The frequency of fatty liver disease in adult population (hepatosteatosis) is approximately 30%. The aim of the present study was to investigate the frequency of hepatosteatosis in inactive hepatitis B virus (HBV) carriers. The frequency of hepatosteatosis was investigated using abdominal ultrasonography (USG) in the patients who admitted to the Gastroenterology clinic between February 2010 and June 2011, and diagnosed as hepatitis B carrier. The patients who were HBsAg positive, had HBV DNA below 2000 IU/mL, and were anti-delta and anti-HCV negative diagnosed as carrier. Of the 78 patients who were diagnosed as inactive HBV carriers and examined by abdomen USG, 46 (59%) were males and the mean age was 39.8 +/- 11.6 years (range 17-71). Hepatosteatosis was found in 33 (42%) patients, of whom 24 (% 73) were grade 1, 7 (21%) were grade 2, and 2 (6%) were grade 3.
