Abstract
This research aims to investigate the phenomenon of absenteeism among university students, encompassing its ramifications, underlying causes, strategies for mitigation, and the efficacy of institutional interventions. Adopting a descriptive phenomenological methodology, the study conducted face-to-face interviews with 32 students selected from eight distinct universities in Turkey. Data analysis was conducted utilizing a content analysis approach. The research outcomes delineate the impacts of absenteeism on university students, elucidate the factors contributing to its prevalence, propose mechanisms for managing absenteeism within the university context, and assess the effectiveness of institutional measures aimed at reducing absenteeism. The findings underscore the necessity of a holistic approach involving active participation from both students and faculty to address absenteeism effectively within the university milieu.
