Abstract

This study conducts a cross-cultural comparison of critical thinking (CT) dispositions among university students in T & uuml;rkiye and Vietnam, utilizing the Sosu Critical Thinking Dispositions Scale (CTDS). A total of 480 Turkish students (241 females, 239 males) and 445 Vietnamese students (158 females, 287 males) participated in the study. The primary aim was to assess the measurement invariance of the CTDS across these two distinct cultural contexts to ensure the validity of cross-cultural comparisons. The results confirmed that the CTDS is cross-culturally invariant, allowing for reliable comparisons of CT dispositions between the two groups. Subsequent analyses revealed that while both Turkish and Vietnamese students exhibited high levels of CT dispositions, no significant differences were observed between the two groups. Additionally, the study explored the influence of demographic variables, such as gender and parental education, on CT dispositions in both cultural contexts. The findings contribute to the understanding of how cultural and educational factors shape CT dispositions and underscore the importance of culturally sensitive assessment tools in cross-cultural research on critical thinking.
