Abstract
Mustafa Kemal's achievements during the years of the War of Independence deeply affected both Riza Khan and his supporters in Iran. According to Riza Khan and his supporters, Mustafa Kemal was an important war hero and commander. For this reason, Mustafa Kemal was a role model for Riza Khan. The first important influence of Mustafa Kemal on Riza Khan was seen in the proclamation of the republic. After the republic was proclaimed in Turkey on October 29, 1923, as a result of both the indoctrination of Mustafa Kemal and the discontent among the Iranian people against the Qajar Dynasty, Riza Khan took action for the declaration of the republic in Iran. According to Riza Khan and his supporters, progress would only take place as a result of the destruction of the shah despotism. For this purpose, Riza Khan, who started campaigns in favor of the republic in Iran; was supported by intellectuals, young liberals, journalists and many others. However, the republic, which was planned to be declared on the Newroz Festival (March 21, 1924), failed as a result of the objections of the opposition led by the ulema. Opponents objected because they thought the republic was against Islam, would open the door to Russian expansionism, and that the British supporters had an opinion. The aim of this study is to examine its reflections in Iran after the proclamation of the republic in Turkey on October 29, 1923, in the light of sources.
