Abstract
Gas adsorption on coals, as well as identifying coal gas content of coal seams, have a vital role in terms of prediction and prevention either gas outbursts or explosions in coal mines. That is why coal samples should be characterised in terms of their adsorption capacities. Coals depending on their structural and compositional characteristics, they have different potentials of adsorption of depending on gas type and pressure. Likewise, coal desorption characteristics changes with coal properties and, in the context of this study, nitrogen, carbon dioxide and methane gases adsorption on various types of coals were investigated by plotting the corresponding isotherms. In addition to the effect of gas type and pressure on gas adsorption and desorption, the effect of coal petrography was investigated.
