Abstract
During the Soviet regime, the phase of Kyrgyz literature before the October Revolution in 1917 was deliberately ignored and the works before the revolution were not allowed to be surveyed. In the 19th century, Kyrgyz lands witnessed civil wars and instability and thus the social life of the Kyrgyz, who were first under Hokand domination and who then witnessed a Russian occupation of their land, was changed greatly. The poets of this period include these changes and political and historical events in their work. From the point of view of the Kyrgyz, the most important two events of the period are the Hokand domination of the Kyrgyz land and more importantly, the Russian occupation. Reactions against both these occupations are seen in the poetry of this period. This paper aims to explore the socio-economic and political situation of the 19th century and how this was reflected in the works of some prominent poets of 19th century Kyrgyz poetry.
