Abstract

In this study, opportunistic relay selection (ORS) is adapted into a Distributed Turbo Coded Cooperative (DTCC) Communication System in a multi relay environment. The considered selection rules are Harmonic mean and Max-Min. ORS rules are used to select two best relays among multi (M) relays. One of the two best selected relays uses Amplify and Forward (AF) protocol and the other uses Decode and Forward (DF) protocol. The Bit Error Rate (BER) performances are obtained for various relay positions (i.e., the variance of channel coefficients), number of multi-relays, power allocations and selection rules. The results show that the use of Max-Min rule or Harmonic Mean rule gives similar performance results. On the other hand, the relay location and the power allocation have significant impact on the performances of the system. Finally, the diversity order of the proposed system is obtained as M+2.
